Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Gets a New Funny Car Doppelganger

Seeing production cars take on a racing form is nothing new as most racing series use some form of “production” cars as their basis. NHRA drag racing is no different, especially in the wild-looking funny car series. In 2019, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat will get a new funny car styled after the insane production sedan.

The 2019 Charger SRT Hellcat NHRA funny car will not go through huge changes, but it will see a handful of updates to bring it closer to the production model. These updates include more pronounced scallops on the doors, deeper bodylines, and a revised nose with a new carbon-fiber and Kevlar front splitter. Also mimicking the production car are new decals up front that simulate the production grille, badging, air extractors, and hood scoop.

Dodge also reworked the burst panel on the front of the vehicle, centering it over the engine to better disperse energy as needed.

Where this funny car will venture far from the production car is under its hood. While the Charger SRT Hellcat is plenty powerful at 707 horsepower, this funny car puts it to shame with over 10,000 horsepower — yes, a 10 followed by three zeros.

The 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat funny car will make its quarter-mile debut at the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals Powered by Mopar at Bandimere Speedway near Denver, July 20-22.
