It has been a while since the Jeep brand announced the Wrangler would get a diesel option. But the wait was well worth it, as we have all the official details on the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel now, and they are impressive.
The Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel will roll in with the new-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine that’ll crank out 260 horsepower and a mighty 442 pound-feet of torque. This power will route through a new TorqueFlight eight-speed automatic transmission specially designed to handle the increased twisting force this potent engine creates. This transmission also features over 40 shift maps to help improve fuel economy, performance, and off-road capability.
The new transmission hooks up with two available transfer cases. In Rubicon models, this gearbox will pair with a Rock-Trac transfer case with a 4.0-to-1 low-range gear. In the Sport and Sahara models, this eight-speed transmission will pair with a Command-Trac part-time two-speed transfer case with a 2.72-to-1 low-range ratio.
This all leads to a pair of third-generation Dana 44 heavy-duty axles that ship power to the front and rear wheels.
While this diesel engine will do wonders for off-roading, it will also deliver excellent fuel economy. Official fuel-economy numbers are not available yet, but the Jeep brand promises “the highest driving range on one tank of fuel ever for Wrangler.”
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel will arrive here at Garber Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, serving Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, and the surrounding areas, in the fall of 2019. Keep an eye on our online inventory page to be the first to know when it arrives.
