To boost its participation in NASCAR competition, Dodge unveiled the limited-edition 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona with its long nose and massive wing. This racer went on to be the first NASCAR vehicle to break the 200-mph average-lap barrier, and that record stood for 17 years. The 2020 model year marks 50 years since the Charger Daytona terrorized NASCAR competition, and Dodge is paying homage to this exceptional car with a limited-edition 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition.
The 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition will start with a handful of outward updates to add to its style without going too over the top. These enhancements will include a “Daytona” decklid and rear fender decal with a matching spoiler, and exclusive B5 Blue paint job. Buyers can also opt for three other nonexclusive colors: Pitch Black, Triple Nickel, and White Knuckle. Rounding out the updates include white Hellcat badges on with the B5 Blue, Pitch Black, and Triple Nickle paint jobs and a bright-finish badge with the White Knuckle paint job.
The finishing touches on the exterior are 20-by-11-inch “Warp Speed” wheels with a Satin Carbon finish wrapped in Pirelli 305/35ZR20 tires and gloss-black brake calipers.
Inside, the 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition boasts unique seats in black Nappa leather with heating, ventilation, blue accent stitching, and “Daytona” embroidering. The rest of the cabin gains the same blue stitching a Dynamic Suede headliner, real carbon-fiber instrument panel and bezels, Light Black Chrome accents, a suede flat-bottom steering wheel with blue accent trimming, and velour-bound floor mats with a blue accent border.
Paying respects to the original 501-unit run of the 1969 Charger Daytona – the minimum production number to qualify for NASCAR – the 2020 Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition will also have only a 501-unit run. A plaque on the passenger’s side of the dashboard will show off its limited nature by displaying “X out of 501.”
All the upgraded looks are fantastic, but this Dodge wouldn’t be happy with just look-good bits. It also gets a 10-horsepower boost, putting its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 engine at 717 horses.
