Ram 1500 Vs. Chevy Silverado 1500

By Justin Cupler | April 22nd, 2019

Pickup trucks are becoming part of the daily-driving culture as they become more luxurious and easier to drive each year. Two of the newest pickups that show this trajectory are the 2019 Ram 1500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500. Which is better for our Saginaw area buyers? Find out below.

Exterior

Ram fully redesigns the 1500 for 2019, bringing in a sharp new look that ends the semi-truck-inspired look it’s had for many years and introduces a new look that falls in line with the more family-oriented route the entire segment has moved toward recently.

The 2019 Chevy Silverado is all-new too. It boasts a brand-new look that includes striking new headlights and taillights, a bold grille design, and an upright, work-ready design language. It also gains new Trail Boss models that increase its rugged looks and give it some off-road cred.

The 2019 Ram 1500 is larger in most measurements when compared to the 2019 Silverado, plus is comes standard as a Quad Cab, while the Silverado 1500 has a standard regular cab model.

Interior

Inside, both the 2019 Chevy Silverado and 2019 Ram 1500 show off rugged, work-ready cabins that include upright dash boards, large knobs, and glove-friendly interfaces. The Ram 1500, however, shows off some added flair with its rugged Rebel model and its near-custom interior.

The Ram 1500 offers more modern features too, including a tablet-sized touchscreen, a rotary shifter knob, and more.

In roominess, the Silverado 1500’s front seats offer more space, but the Ram 1500’s rear seats deliver more legroom for taller individuals.

Performance

Wide ranges of engine options is just how the truck segment works, and the Ram 1500 has plenty of options, including one 3.6-liter V-6 engine and two versions of the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 available. The engines range from 305 horsepower to 395 horsepower. The V-6 engine gets an mpg boost from its standard eTorque mild-hybrid system, and the V-8 has this same fuel-efficiency-boosting tech as an option.

Chevy takes its engine options a bit overboard, but one benefit is there is an engine for everyone, starting with its standard 285-horsepower 4.3-liter V-6 and ending with its 420-horsepower 6.2-liter V-8. The latter powertrain delivers a massive 13,200-pound towing capacity, making this one work pickup that won’t quit.
