Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Vs. Honda Odyssey

By Justin Cupler | May 20th, 2019

Minivans have never been pillars of fuel economy, but Chrysler’s Pacifica Hybrid flipped this on its ear with 32 miles of EV range and a 30 mpg combined rating. How does this thrifty minivan stack up to another stalwart in the segment, the Honda Odyssey? Continue reading to find out which minivan is better for our Green Cove Springs area buyers.

Exterior

Since its debut, the running opinion on the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has been that it’s one of the best-looking minivans on the market. It boasts a unique look that is luxurious and stylish with its swooping grille, chrome accents, rounded body lines, and more. Plus, in its higher trim levels, the Pacifica Hybrid becomes downright luxurious, especially for the segment it plays in.

The Honda Odyssey was all-new for 2018, and not much changed as the 2019 model rolled out. The 2019 Honda Odyssey is also one of the most stylish minivans to ever hit the roads with its massive glasshouse that delivers maximum visibility and looks great as it swoops downward near the rear and wraps around to create the floating-roof look. Like the Pacifica Hybrid, the 2019 Odyssey’s exterior has loads of options that take it from a decently equipped base model to a fully loaded luxury minivan.

Breaking out the tape measure, the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is larger than the Odyssey in every key measurable.

Interior

Inside, the 2019 Honda Odyssey feels like you run-of-the-mill minivan, albeit one with the most recent design that includes a floating infotainment screen and a push-button gear shifter. There is no shortage of gear to make long road trips more bearable, including a rear entertainment system, in-car Wi-Fi, a rear-seat camera, an in-car PA system, and more. Safety is also of the utmost importance in the 2019 Honda Odyssey with its standard automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and more on EX and higher trim levels.

The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica’s cabin takes a far more premium approach with its more stylish dash and use of contrasting colors. In the upper trims, its premium upholstery and two-tone “luxury” steering wheel add to its classy good looks. Tech is also plentiful with the Pacifica Hybrid’s standard 8.4-inch touchscreen, 7-inch driver-information screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and much more.

Performance

Under its hood, the 2019 Honda Odyssey features a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that cranks out 280 horsepower and pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission. In the Touring and Elite trims, this van picks up a 10-speed automatic. This amounts to a 6.6-second 0-to-60 time and a 3,500-pound towing capacity.

The 2019 Pacifica Hybrid boasts a 3.6-liter V-6 engine and a pair of transmission-mounted electric motors that combine for 260 horsepower. This amounts to a slower 7.4-second 0-to-60 time, but it can tow an extra 100 pounds, and its 30 mpg combined hybrid rating and 32 miles of electric-only driving make it far cheaper to operate than the Odyssey.
